Sustainable Tourism: Practice, Challenges, and Opportunities

The Caribbean and South Florida regions are heavily reliant on tourism and are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of extreme weather events, as increasingly evidenced across recent decades. The tourism industry bears the early consequences of a changing climate in varying ways and degrees. This session surveys emerging lessons around how tourism in these regions responds to climate-related stressors and shocks, including adaptation strategies needed or employed by micro and macro-scaled tourism industries, including the cruise line and resort industries and resulting sustainable practices.
